School Association

What does the School Association do?

The SA is a recognised group of parents that work together for the benefit of the school and the children. We are a registered charity wholly dependent on donations from parents & local businesses through sponsorship and supporting events such as the fayres and Quiz nights.  We play a vital part in the school community. The SA supports the school by fundraising for equipment which they would otherwise not be able to purchase.

The SHX School Association constitution states:

The object of the Association is to advance the education of the pupils in the school. In furtherance of this object the Association may:

  • Develop more extended relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school.
  • Engage in activities which support the school and advance the education of the pupils attending it.
  • Provide and assist in the provision of such facilities or items for education at the school (not provided from statutory funds) as the Committee in consultation with the Governing Body shall from time to time.

Why you should join the School Association

Taking an active role in your children’s school can play a key part to their success. We’ve compiled a list of 7 reasons why joining the SA can greatly improve your children’s education experience:

  1. It’s good for your child – research shows that children whose parents are involved in their school make better grades and have fewer disciplinary problems at school. When parents get plugged in at school, children do better!
  2. It’s important to the school – schools are becoming more and more dependent on parent groups. The SA is responsible for almost all of the school’s fundraising revenue. We provide support to teachers, helping to create a caring and supportive atmosphere in the school.
  3. You’ll get connected – There’s no better way to get to know what’s going on in the school than to be on the SA, you’ll be closer connected to the school.
  4. You’ll be part of a network – every SA function is an opportunity to meet other parents in the same situation as you. You’ll be connected with parents who share a common goal of improving the school for the children.
  5. You’ll make a difference & it’s fun! – the aim being to provide the most educational & positive social environment for our children to flourish in. You’ll be involved in planning/supporting fun events/social get togethers that the whole family can attend.
  6. You’ll help raise necessary funds – fundraisers and supporting school initiatives such as the Maths Cafes remain important to improving the quality of the school overall, parent groups such as the SA makes them possible.
  7. It’s for every parent – Your voice and opinion matters! You can help improve the environment in which your child and their peers spend so much time in. You’ll see the smiles on their faces and know that you’ve played a role in making school a little more fun and comfortable.

AGM Update:

The School Association held their AGM on Thursday 15th October 2015.  The following are highlights of the meeting.

How much was raised and what was purchased?

In the 2014/2015 academic year we raised an amazing £11,231.81 (unaudited).  We were able to fund a large portion of the Ipad syncing station and 16 Ipad Airs.  The whole school benefit from the use of these Ipads, as each year group gets an opportunity to use them in class.

We also funded the cost of the Children’s University Passports for all new pupils and supplied Christmas Crackers for each child.

This academic year we are raising funds specifically to improve the school library.

Maths Cafe:

This is now the fourth year of holding Maths Café.   They are still proving to be a great success.  Further dates will be confirmed shortly. The School Association help by providing refreshments.  If any parents/guardians wish to help please contact the School Association for more details.

Class Cake Sales:

The School Association have been holding cake sales for each Class throughout the year. All monies raised from the individual Class cake sales allows the Class to purchase equipment / resources decided by the children of that year.
